ESCAMBIA, FL – A man broke into his ex-girlfriend’s residence recently in Escambia, Fla., only to be met with gunfire as he attacked her. He forced his way into the residence and assaulted her, prompting her brother to shoot him.
Deputies of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call on September 5, with reports of shots fired and an intruder/attacker down, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
No parties were named in the press.
A 26-year-old male was found badly wounded at the scene, dying of his wounds. The man had been in a relationship with a 24-year-old female at the residence.
The ex-boyfriend arrived at their home and forced his way in by breaking down the door and arguing with his ex-girlfriend, during which he hit her several times. She texted family members for help, including her 23-year-old brother, who arrived at the scene.
Her brother arrived armed, prompting the ex-boyfriend to draw a pistol of his own, cock it and begin to aim at the brother when her brother fired, hitting the ex-boyfriend twice. He collapsed and at some point (the PNJ nor any other sources state whether he died at the scene or the hospital) died of his wounds.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office stated that no charges would be filed, according to WEARTV.
Thy Sister’s Keeper Luckily Arrived In Time
If this wasn’t a clean shoot, it’ll do ’til one shows up… but there are some things to ponder.
The woman’s life was saved because her brother arrived quickly enough to shoot her attacker. Not everyone gets that lucky. If the axiom that police might not arrive in time to save you is true, it applies just as much as anyone else.
Somebody may come to save you… but it’s up to Fate whether they get there in time.
Violent exes are a danger, especially for women. Restraining orders don’t always work and can’t necessarily be counted on to, though it’s not known if the woman in this case had one. They only give the prosecution a charge they can saddle someone with after the fact, and some people are too deranged to care.
The point is that stalkers and unstable ex-lovers sometimes will not stop until they are imprisoned or dead.
The Second Amendment is for everyone, and this type of threat is why single women who live alone should at least consider owning a firearm. They are much easier targets for a deranged stalker/violent ex than a woman who lives with roommates or family.
Abusers are usually cowards, only striking the most vulnerable. Ergo, it behooves the vulnerable to make themselves less so.
Luckily, her brother came through. Others may not be so lucky.
