The crime seems to have gotten entirely out of control in New Orleans, LA. I live about an hour outside of the city, so I see all the news reports on my feed all day long. Recently, a woman was carjacked while pumping gas at Costco gas station and was dragged nearly 30 feet as her suspect drove off with her car. But this woman was ready to defend herself and her two-year-old son, who was in the car with her.
A woman, an Iraq veteran, was traveling along Interstate 10 last Friday around 5:20 PM on the way to pick up her husband. She found herself in the usual rush hour traffic as she took the Canal St. exit. A group of people in a truck motioned to get over in front of her. But as soon as she did, a man walked up and tried to open her car door.
“So, as he comes up he’s close and he’s pretty aggressive trying to get the car door open makes eye contact with me he’s still trying to get it open a couple times,” Taylor said.
B this woman was armed and ready to defend herself. She picked up her gun and told the suspect that it was “locked and loaded.” Luckily, she didn’t have to fire a shot, and displaying the gun was enough to scare the suspect away. I’m sure the last thing this woman wanted to do was have to discharge her weapon while in the car with her two-year-old. But she was prepared to do so.
“You shouldn’t have to navigate your own city like a war zone. It’s un-American,” Taylor said. “The crime is out of control and it’s terrifying. At this point, having to use the same tactics in an American city that you use in Iraq and Afghanistan simply to navigate through the city it’s scary and I’m not the only mom feeling this way.”
