Police received a phone call around 4 AM this past Sunday from a woman stating she had just shot her boyfriend.
Earlier that day, the two got into an argument. Shortly before 4 AM, the boyfriend arrived at her home unexpectedly. He broke in through a window and started assaulting her by beating her with his hands and throwing her to the ground a few times.
Thankfully, she was able to get to her handgun. She fired in self-defense and hit the boyfriend in the stomach. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
During a statement to the media, John Brown, Deputy Chief for the Yukon Police Department, said:
“It’s always tragic when someone passes away or is killed, especially in this type of situation. But we also understand that in this event, the homeowner was able to properly defend herself. We don’t know what his intentions were, but we also understand that he physically broke into the house. And any type of situation like that, that’s not normal type of behavior – and in her own residence, she has the right to protect herself. We do understand that she exercised her defense mechanisms in order to save herself.” via Oklahoma News 4.
