Boy Fatally Shoots Younger Brother w/ AR-15 Left on Floor; Father Charged w/ Murder

Boy Fatally Shoots Younger Brother w/ AR-15 Left on Floor; Father Charged w/ Murder

This is another tragic incident that could have been completely prevented if only the gun owner property had secured his firearms.

Last Friday, two men were watching TV downstairs when they heard a gunshot come from upstairs. The two men ran upstairs to find one of the men’s 6-year-old son shot in the face with an AR-15. The loaded rifle had been sitting on the floor next to a bed when the older brother, 8, picked it up and accidentally shot his brother.

The boy’s father and uncle rushed the boy to the hospital, but he died from his injuries. The father has been charged with murder, cruelty to children, possession of marijuana, and possession of methamphetamine.

I hate reading and covering stories like this. But let this be a reminder to us all that firearms need to be properly secured to prevent incidents like this. The media reported that seven children were living in the house along with four adults. Had the father put the rifle in a gun safe, his 6-year-old son would still be alive, and his other children wouldn’t be losing a father as I’m sure he will do jail time for this, as he should.
