CHICAGO, IL – Two armed robbers thought they had the upper hand when attempting to rob a rideshare driver until he drew his concealed carry gun and returned fire.
A Chicago man driving for Uber was dropping off a passenger around 1 AM this past Saturday. A man and woman approached the driver announcing that it was a robbery. They took the driver’s cell phone, and as they attempted to flee, the male suspect fired shots at the driver.
The driver, who had a valid Illinois concealed carry permit, drew his gun and fired at the robbers, hitting both of them. The male suspect was shot in the leg and grazed the woman’s arm. The male suspect was transported to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and the woman refused medical services.
The investigation is ongoing, but I doubt any charges would be filed against the victim for firing at the fleeing suspects since one of them was firing at him while running away. Now I’m just wondering if the victim got his cell phone back!
