HOUSTON, TX – A domestic dispute escalated into a shooting at a Houston apartment complex, resulting in the arrest and charging of 39-year-old Ryan Ameer Shah. The incident occurred in the garage parking lot of the complex located at 2525 South Voss Road around 8:45 a.m. on Thursday.
Shah, who is currently hospitalized with a gunshot wound, faces charges of assault on a family member with a prior conviction, filed in the 262nd State District Court. Details regarding his booking photo are unavailable as he remains under medical care.
According to Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults and Family Violence Division, Detectives R. Mendoza and A. Chheav responded to the scene after reports of a shooting. They found Shah injured and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
The shooter, a 37-year-old woman whose name has not been disclosed, told authorities that Shah is her ex-husband. She was visiting a friend at the apartment complex when she received a disturbing text containing a photo of her vehicle. Suspecting it was from Shah, who she claimed also vandalized her car, she went to inspect the damage.
During her examination, Shah reportedly struck her, prompting her to shoot him in self-defense. She reported to police that she feared for her life during the altercation. Fortunately, she did not sustain serious injuries.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has been involved in the case, and charges were promptly filed against Shah.
This incident serves as a grave reminder of the potential dangers of confrontations with estranged family members, particularly in isolated settings like parking garages. It also underscores the importance of safety and vigilance when dealing with individuals known to be violent. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
