CHATHAM COUNTY, GA — A Monday night confrontation in a Chatham County neighborhood escalated into a shooting, leaving one man hospitalized with potentially serious injuries. The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. in the 2500 block of Oak Forest Drive and involved two men who were reportedly known to each other.
According to the Chatham County Police Department, officers responded to a call at the residence and found that the altercation began when an uninvited man, identified as 51-year-old Diego Holland, arrived at the home. Witnesses reported that Holland initiated a verbal argument that quickly escalated into an assault on the homeowner.
As the situation worsened, the homeowner resorted to using a firearm to defend himself, shooting Holland. The wounded man was subsequently transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Holland has since been charged with battery, burglary in the 1st degree, and two counts of cruelty to children in the 3rd degree. The charges reflect the presence of minors during the incident and the severity of his actions.
Following an investigation, detectives concluded that the homeowner acted in self-defense. No charges are expected to be filed against him.
