Father and Son Open Fire on Armed Suspects During Car Burglary, Shooting One in the Face in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX — A vehicle burglary escalated into a violent confrontation in downtown San Antonio Tuesday afternoon when a family encountered two armed suspects in the act of breaking into their car. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in a parking lot near the Shops at Rivercenter.

According to San Antonio Police, as the family returned to their vehicle, they discovered a man and a woman burglarizing the car. The suspects quickly drew firearms and pointed them at the family. In response, a man and his adult son, both armed, fired on the suspects to defend themselves. Witnesses reported hearing between eight to ten gunshots.

The male suspect, aged 35, was struck in the face, while the female suspect also sustained gunshot wounds. Despite their injuries, the suspects managed to flee the scene and were dropped off at a nearby hospital. Authorities reported that both individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Following treatment, the woman was arrested due to outstanding warrants unrelated to the burglary. The male suspect’s legal situation remains under investigation as police continue to examine the details of the incident.

This case underscores the potential dangers that can arise during confrontations with criminals, even in broad daylight. Defensive gun use, as in this situation, serves as a stark reminder that responsible firearm ownership includes knowing when and how to protect oneself when facing imminent danger.

Parking lots, like the one where this incident occurred, are considered transitional spaces—areas where people are often distracted and more vulnerable to criminal activity. Staying alert and aware in such environments is crucial. The family’s quick response likely prevented serious harm, emphasizing the importance of being vigilant and trained in firearm use.
