Man Fatally Shot While Attempting to Enter Car with Sleeping Occupant Inside

MACON, Georgia – An early morning incident at the Riverview Hotel in Macon has left one man dead, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Broadway at approximately 3:01 a.m. on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, authorities found 36-year-old Eric Ivan Searcy-Bryson unresponsive with a gunshot wound. The initial investigation revealed that Searcy-Bryson was allegedly attempting to enter a parked Mercedes when he was shot by the vehicle’s occupant, who was reportedly asleep inside at the time of the incident.

Searcy-Bryson was quickly transported to Atrium Health Navicent, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has notified his next of kin.
