A man arrested on October 7, 2022, for shooting and killing his father-in-law had all charges against him dropped. An in-depth investigation revealed reasonable defense under numerous statutes, such as stand-your-ground, defense of habitation, and self-defense.

The shooting occurred after a domestic incident where the defender was placing his wife’s belongings outside while she and her father collected them. Words were exchanged between the defender and his father-in-law during this process.

There was video evidence that showed the defender going back into his home to avoid conflict with his more sizable father-in-law. The father-in-law followed the homeowner into the house. Audio exists of the homeowner telling the man to leave before retrieving his pistol. The homeowner shot the father-in-law when he became combative.

The Public Defender, who was the defender’s attorney said, “What a wonderful thing to happen to (the defender) at Christmas. He gets to go home and spend Christmas with his family.” He went on to thank the District Attorney’s office “for taking a good hard look at the evidence before indicting it.”
