CHICAGO, IL – A local news crew was robbed at gunpoint while filming a segment on recent armed robberies in the area.
Univision Chicago sent a news crew to West Town, a neighborhood in Chicago, IL, early Monday morning. The segment they were filming covered recent armed robberies in the area, including a carjacking a few days earlier on the same block they were filming.
Shortly before 5 AM, three armed robbers wearing ski masks confronted the news crew, demanding money. The armed robbers then searched the news vehicle and stole film equipment and a backpack.
Local news reported that the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians Local 41 is meeting for its members to “voice some of their concerns that they may have from the streets” and see what they can do to support their members.
I don’t know whether or not the associates or the local news organizations allow their crew to carry concealed if they have an Illinois concealed carry permit, but that would be a start.
