Ohio Police confiscated a driver’s CCW and permit after he failed to inform the officer of its presence during a traffic stop.
The driver was traveling along Kingsdale Blvd. with darkly tinted windows, the initial cause of the traffic stop.
According to Ohio Law, Section 2923.16, drivers with a proper CCW permit and weapons in a vehicle must inform law enforcement officers of their presence if pulled over.
Although the Kia Soul driver had a valid CCW permit, he was charged with a weapons violation, causing his permit and weapon to be confiscated.
This is the reason why even though it can be overstated to check your local laws on firearm use whether it be for self-defense or during travel, things like this can cause preventable issues.
Unfortunately with this driver not informing the officer of their weapon, the ability to have a firearm for self-defense has been taken indefinitely. Matters like these are important to consider whether or not you are a new concealed carrier.
