Concealed Carrier Gets Into Shootout With Car Thief

Concealed Carrier Gets Into Shootout With Car Thief

A Chicago man is lucky to be alive after getting into a gunfight with a car thief in Chicago this past weekend.

Shortly after noon on Jan. 28, 2023, a 46-year-old man saw someone trying to break into his car. The address in the news reports matches Best Buy in Burbank, IL which is a suburb of Chicago. We can assume this incident took place in the Best Buy parking lot.

FOX32 reported that the victim, who has an Illinois concealed carry license and FOID card, drew his pistol and opened fire on the suspect. The suspect had a firearm, returned fire, and then fled the scene in a car with two other people. Their vehicle got into a crash nearby and the police were able to take all three suspects into custody. The suspect that fired at the victim was grazed by a bullet and was treated for his injury at a hospital.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident and charges are pending.

The details of this incident are sparse. But we never recommend using your gun in defense of property such as a vehicle. It sounds like the victim was the first to fire a shot. Did he see that the suspect had a gun? Did the suspect threaten the victim with the gun to cause him to draw his gun and shoot? Regardless, potentially losing your life over a vehicle just isn’t worth it.
