A man was in the parking lot of a restaurant in Chicago, IL, around 5 PM this past Tuesday. It is unclear if the man was in a vehicle or standing in the parking lot. A car pulled up, and an armed 19-year-old got out and started shooting at the man.
The victim drew his gun and fired back at the suspect, hitting him in the right hand and left foot, stopping the threat. The suspect was transported to the hospital and was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries. The is an ongoing investigation, and charges are pending. The victim did have a concealed carry permit.
Parking lots are transitional spaces, and we talk about them a lot here on USA Carry. This is where a lot of criminals prey on people who aren’t paying attention, often walking with their heads in their phones, etc. Make sure you keep your head on a swivel and stay situationally aware.
And while the victim was able to stop the threat, hitting the suspect in the hand and foot seems to show that his aim wasn’t the best. Hands often get hit during shooting as we tend to focus on the gun shooting back at us. I remember getting hit in the hands during my first force-on-force training. But striking a foot seems like some wild shooting was potentially going on. We must be accountable for every round we fire out of our guns. So get out there and get training from a reputable firearms instructor and keep it up with practice on the range and at home.
