LAS VEGAS, NV – A Las Vegas homeowner’s son was forced to use his gun in self-defense when him and his dad found two suspects attempting to break into their home.
A 70-year-old man and his 50-year-old son were in their home in Las Vegas on Sept. 20. Around 9 AM, they noticed two men wearing masks, gloves and dark clothing attempting to break into their home. The homeowner son retrieved a firearm and shot both me as they entered the home.
The homeowner called the police, reported the incident and told them that one of the suspects appeared to be dead in their backyard. He also reported that the other suspect fled the scene in a grey sedan.
When the police arrived on the scene, they found the deceased suspect in the backyard. Shortly after, the police received called of a dark sedan driving recklessly which wound up getting into an accident with two other vehicle. The driver of the sedan had a gunshot wound in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and is in police custody.
Alls well that ends well. One of the suspects, for sure, won’t try this again. The other should see some jailing for the incident as he could be charged with murder. This is often referred to as the “felony murder rule” or “felony murder doctrine.”
The felony murder rule generally holds that any death which occurs during the commission of, or in immediate flight from, a specified felony is first-degree murder, and all participants in that felony or attempted felony can be charged with and found guilty of murder.
