Father Arrested After Gun is Found in His 3-Year-Old’s Backpack at School

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A man has been arrested after a teacher found a gun in his 3-year-old’s backpack.

Yesterday, a 3-year-old boy showed up for school at the West Side Pre-K 4 SA Center in San Antonio, TX. When teachers went through his backpack, they were surprised to find a handgun in the bag. The 3-year-old was unaware of why there was a gun in his bag.

An off-duty police officer on the school grounds providing security confiscated the gun and notified the police. The boy was unfortunately placed in child protection services. His father was then arrested and charged with felony child endangerment. More charges and arrests could be made as the police continue to investigate the incident.

We often cover incidents involving irresponsible gun owners, but this one takes the cake. How does this even happen? Did the boy find the unsecured gun and put it in his backpack? If that is what happened, then it shouldn’t have happened. If you have kids in the home, then ALL firearms need to be secured and inaccessible to anyone that should not have access to it. Did the father put the gun in the boy’s bag for some unknown reason and then forget to take it out before the kid was dropped off at school? Well, that’s just as irresponsible.
