Homeowner ‘Had to do it’ After Man Attempts to Break Into His Home

Homeowner ‘Had to do it’ After Man Attempts to Break Into His Home

A Michigan homeowner is still shaken up after shooting and killing an armed intruder early this morning, telling the media he “had to do it.”

Shortly after midnight, a man and his wife saw a man knocking out the windows of his truck. They told the suspect to get away, but that only caused him to move toward the house. They closed and locked the door. The wife saw the suspect holding a handgun, so the husband armed himself with a shotgun which he had to retrieve from a gun safe and loan.

The suspect then went around to the backyard and told them to give him the keys. Then he tried to break through a back door to gain entry to the house. He managed to get it open but not all the way, thanks to the door being barricaded. The husband told him he had a shotgun and to leave, but the suspect continued and then started shooting. The husband shot back, took cover, and saw the suspect flee.

“Then he started shooting at me. Bullets going past your head, like that,” he continued, pointing with his finger. “Took cover. And he was going back down, run away.” via WOODTV.

The police arrived they found the suspect near the house where he then died.

Thankfully, the homeowner had a gun that he used to defend himself against this armed intruder. He admits that it was a hunting shotgun and not a gun he planned on using for self-defense. This is why it was secured in a locked safe and unloaded. Good thing the intruder gave him enough time to arm himself.

Conditions of Ready – How to Store Home Defense Weapons

Even though this man did everything he could to protect his family, he is obviously still shaken by the fact that he took someone’s life. As concealed carriers, we need to be prepared for this as well. He mentioned that he is a religious man, and it is tough to deal with. Not to mention the fear he and his wife are dealing with after this traumatic event. Hopefully, they can put this past them and move on without living in fear in their usually quiet rural town.
