On Wednesday morning, a homeowner in St. Louis County, MO, fatally shot an intoxicated intruder in self-defense.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 4:20 PM yesterday. An intoxicated man, armed with a handgun, “unlawfully entered” what he thought was his apartment.
A physical altercation ensued between the intruder and the homeowner. During the altercation, the homeowner shot the intruder in self-defense. It is unknown whether the homeowner used his or the intruder’s firearm. The intruder was pronounced dead at the scene.
The homeowner was treated for minor injuries and is cooperating with the investigation. Police do not believe that the homeowner and the intruder knew each other. The incident is being treated as a case of self-defense.
How the intruder gained access to the apartment wasn’t reported. Was the door unlocked? Did the homeowner open the door for the intruder? Either way, make sure you lock your doors. And never answer the door to someone you don’t know. Doorbell cameras are an easy fix to stay secure when someone is at your door. It may seem like we are pointing out the obvious, but we see these mistakes time and time again.
