Missouri Sheriff Says He Will Not Release CCW Permit Holder’s Personal Info to the FBI

Missouri Sheriff Says He Will Not Release CCW Permit Holder’s Personal Info to the FBI

The FBI contacted Scotland County Sheriff Bryan Whitney and the Missouri Sheriff’s Association, stating they wanted to audit the sheriff’s office’s concealed carry records. This would include giving out personal information of those that have a concealed carry permit.

Missouri has a law in place that prohibits the sharing of this personal information. Sheriff Whitney contacted outside counsel and then released a statement to the citizens of his county stating that he would not be releasing this information “even at the threat of a federal arrest.”

“The sheriff also told us he will be hiding Scotland County CCW records at an off-site, secure, and secret location in the event the FBI issues a federal search warrant. He added that agents won’t find the records.” – via KHQA.

We’ll have to see how this plays out, but I applaud Sheriff Whitney for taking a stance to protect the personal information of the citizens in his county.
