Mother Shoots Daughter’s Boyfriend During Domestic Disturbance

Mother Shoots Daughter’s Boyfriend During Domestic Disturbance

DETROIT, MI – A Detroit man was shot by his girlfriend’s mother after pursuing her to her parent’s home. The woman he was chasing had left their home after a heated argument, and he followed her to continue the dust up.

He got into a confrontation with her parents, which escalated, resulting in her mother shooting him in ostensible self-defense.

Man Pursues Girlfriend To Parents Home, Gets Shot

According to Fox2 Detroit, police responded to the scene of a domestic disturbance and shooting in Southfield – a suburb of Detroit, Mich. – which occurred after a man followed his girlfriend to her parents’ home on Sept. 10.

His girlfriend had fled an earlier “domestic situation” and sought refuge at her parents’ home. The man arrived at the house and proceeded to argue with her mother and father.

At some point, the argument escalated to the point where the mother – a CPL holder – drew her pistol and shot him.

Police were investigating the incident and, at the time of the report, had referred the case to the Oakland County prosecutor’s office.

Don’t Mess With Mama Bear

No other outlets reported on this incident, so information is very limited. What’s obvious – man gets in fracas with girlfriend, girlfriend leaves, he chases her and fights with her folks, it all ends in shooting – is that someone made choices that were not very smart.

However, there are some slightly sinister undertones. There’s no mention of domestic violence in the news report, just a “domestic incident.” It isn’t mentioned if he physically fought her parents, though it would seem to be somewhat implied.

If there was domestic abuse involved, that would mean this woman’s abuser pursued her to where she thought she was safe. Domestic abusers do that; they believe they are entitled to do whatever they want to their victim and will go to great lengths to continue to if deranged enough.

Domestic Violence and CCW

This is why it’s critical for domestic abuse victims to follow legal protocols – leave and get a restraining order – and be prepared for the possibility that their abuser may not care about legal consequences for continuing the behavior. Restraining orders may not stop some people, but they do establish a paper trail for holding them accountable.

And if or when abusers decide they don’t care about decent human behavior or even legal consequences anymore…having the means to stop them in their tracks and the ability to use them is the only thing that may save the victim.
