MALTA, NY – Police have identified the man shot and killed in a mobile home park incident as Kurt M. Hubbard, 49, a resident of the Locust Grove Motel. The shooting, which occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, is being considered a case of self-defense, according to authorities.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office reported that Hubbard forced his way into a residence at Northway Estates Mobile Home Park and attacked a resident. The suspect, who did not know the residents, pursued the individual to a bedroom where the household members had taken refuge.
One of the residents retrieved a shotgun and fired two rounds, resulting in the suspect’s death. Sheriff Michael Zurlo confirmed that the investigation has not indicated any criminal conduct by the resident, who appeared to have been defending himself against the unknown intruder.
“There is no threat to the community,” Zurlo stated, ensuring the public that the situation is under control. The residents involved in the incident have been interviewed and released by the police.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident underscores the importance of preparedness and quick thinking in self-defense situations. The resident took all the right steps: arming themselves, ensuring other household members retreated to a single room for safety, and only resorting to lethal force when the intruder pursued them. This scenario highlights the critical need for a well-thought-out plan and the ability to protect oneself and loved ones when faced with imminent danger.
