HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A robbery suspect was fatally shot after his intended victim wrestled a gun away from him and used it in self-defense at an apartment complex on FM 1960 West.
The incident occurred at the 6700 block of FM 1960 W, at The Standard at Champions Park Apartments, around 1 p.m. Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an ongoing crime and discovered a man who had been shot dead at the scene.
According to authorities, the situation unfolded when the victim was walking through the apartment complex and was approached by two men. One of the men brandished a pistol and attempted to rob him. During the confrontation, the victim managed to overpower the gunman, gaining control of the firearm and shooting him in self-defense.
The suspect who was shot died on the scene. The second suspect fled in a silver-colored four-door sedan.
Investigators recovered both a fired pistol casing and a fired rifle casing in the parking lot, suggesting that the second suspect may have also been armed. The pistol used in the struggle was recovered at the scene, and authorities are working to locate witnesses and security footage to further investigate the second suspect’s involvement.
