A taxi driver got the upper hand and came out of this unharmed. He was lucky because drawing when a gun is already drawn on you usually isn’t the best idea.
Yesterday evening, a 30-year-old man was driving a taxi in Chicago. He picked up three males around 6:30 PM. One of the men showed a gun and demanded the taxi driver give them money. Instead of giving up his money, the taxi driver drew his own gun and shot one of the three carjackers. After firing at the suspect, the taxi driver attempted to drive away but hit two vehicles. He was brought to the hospital and is in good condition.
Police arrested the wounded suspect, but the other two fled the scene and were not caught. The Taxi driver had a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License and is not expected to be charged.
It sounds like this taxi driver had good situational awareness and was prepared to defend his life. Drawing with a gun drawn on you can be extremely dangerous, and it will always be quicker to pull a trigger than to draw a gun and fire. But it worked out for this taxi driver.
