TAYLOR, TX – A burglary attempt in Taylor ended with the intruder shot by a homeowner late Monday night. According to Taylor Police Department, the intruder, identified as Austin Sumpter, was armed with a knife inscribed with the words “Hail Satan” when he unlawfully entered a residence in the 2300 block of Donna Drive.
The incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. when the homeowner, sensing the impending danger, dialed 911. Before law enforcement could arrive, Sumpter made his way inside the home, prompting the homeowner to take defensive action. The confrontation resulted in Sumpter being shot in the hip.
Upon arrival, officers found Sumpter on the front porch, incapacitated by his injuries, next to the large knife he carried. After receiving medical treatment, Sumpter was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. and was subsequently arrested. He faces charges of Burglary of a Habitation with Commission of a Felony, classified as a second-degree felony.
This alarming incident has highlighted the grave risks homeowners face from intruders and the lengths to which they may go to protect their safety and property.
