A victim was wounded but is expected to live after getting into a shootout with potentially three armed burglars.
A California man heard someone trying to break into his apartment shortly before 1:40 AM last Wednesday. He called the police to report the break-in. He then called the police shortly after to tell them shots had been exchanged.
At some point between those two calls, it seems that the resident confronted the men, exchanging gunfire. The police reported that they had not gained access to the apartment yet. So it is unclear if the victim opened the door and confronted them or possibly shot through a door or window to engage with the suspects.
When the police arrived on the scene, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
While searching the area around the apartment complex, the police found a crashed vehicle with one of the suspects who was wounded. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
A witness that heard the gunshots and the vehicle crash saw two other suspects flee the vehicle and have not been apprehended.
3 on 1 aren’t odds that any of us would want. But the victim was able to overcome those odds since he was armed with a handgun. I’d like to know more about how the exchange of gunfire took place, but we don’t have those details at this time. Luckily, the victim is expected to survive being shot in the leg. It could have turned out way worse.
