3-Year-Old Gains Access To Handgun On Christmas Day, Shoots Self In Head

HENDERSON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA — A 3-year-old girl is fighting for her life after finding a handgun, which was discharged and shot the child in the head. She was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery, and her family is praying for a miracle.

From a GoFundMe page that was set up by a friend of the family;

On Christmas Day precious 3 year old Aylee was the victim of a horrible accident in which she suffered a gunshot wound to the head. She was airlifted to the nearby trauma center where she underwent emergency surgery. The Chief Neurosurgeon was on staff that evening and performed the surgery. Aylee remains in critical condition at Mission Hospital in Asheville. An update from Aylee’s mother Sunday morning read “She made it through the night heavily sedated.” Hundreds of prayer warriors around the world are lifting Aylee in prayer for her survival and full recovery from this accident. Please join with us in declaring fullness of life and health for Aylee. God promises throughout scripture to protect His children from the harm that the enemy tries to bring against us.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not made public, but according to a family friend, neither of Aylee’s parents or anyone else living in the same house were involved. The handgun also did not belong to the parents or anyone else in the home.

Aylee’s father is a retired captain from the Sheriff’s office.
The responsibility lies with whoever owned the handgun, and that person needs to be held accountable for this negligence. As firearm owners, it is our responsibility to secure our firearms from children, and anyone else who should not have access to them.

An update on the GoFundMe page was made yesterday, stating;

Aylee’s parents have shared an update about Aylee this evening, and asking specific prayer. The pressure on Aylee’s brain is very high, and the next 48 hours are very critical. Her doctors are doing everything they can to keep her as stable as possible. From Tim and Anya “We need a miracle for our precious little girl.”

Folks, secure your firearms, even if you’re not with them for a few seconds. It’s the responsible thing to do, and if you don’t, it can come with terrible consequences.
